Can Having IUD Placed Result On Abdominal Pain?

I had my son 6 months ago and a month later had the IUD placed. For the past month I had been having pain in my abdomin and gained weight. So at my doctors appointment on 7/20/10 I had my doctor switch me to the shot. Now I started my period a week early and it is very heavy and there are a lot of clots and I'm having very bad pains now (not like menstrual cramps but worse). I know it is almost impossible to get pregnant on merena but I also got pregnant with my son while I was on birth control. Should I take a pregnancy test or what? If you have any advice I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Yes the IUD can cause pain in the abdomen.
There is no need to go for a pregnancy tests as you already have the heavy bleeding, clots and pain, I would advise you to undergo an ultrasonography to see the position of the interior of the uterus.
If the products are seen , you have to undergo curating.
IF no such things medicines under the guidance of a Gynecologist will help you to get a control.
Continue with the treatment as already must have been advised.
