Can Having Chicken Pox With A History Of Fibromyalgia Be Related?

I have been having widespread pain, diagnosed with fibromyalgia, following a flu like illness about a year ago. recently I have broken out with something that looks like chicken pox. I have doctors who are skeptical of my symptoms. Could they be related?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

There may be a possibility of chicken pox triggering the fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is a long-term condition that causes pain all over the body. Its exact cause is unknown, but it is thought to be due to abnormal levels of certain chemicals in the brain, spinal cord and nerves. It is most often triggered by stressful events, injury, surgery, viral infections like flu or chickenpox, and post-herpetic neuralgia (shingles).

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
