Can Having Tooth Extraction Be Safe While On Prolia?

I am currently on Prolia for osteoperosis, dentist told me I need a tooth extraction, but I am concerned about getting ONJ, my last injection was approximately 6 weeks ago,is it safe to do so? Should I try to wait until the Prolia is out of my system? I read it stays in your system 6 months. My level of osteoperosis was 3.7 in my spine one year ago,won t get another dexa scan until November to see if I am improving, also have Celiac Disease and have parathyroid surgery 18 months ago. Thank you for your reply.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you are on prolia and now wondering about side effects and contradictions of prolia . Well the Prolia brand of denosumab is used to treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women who have high risk of bone fracture . As in case of osteoporosis the bone density comparatively become less and chance of jaw breakage increases , so its very important to do extraction procedure very delicately and with less trauma . Its also very important to check bone density level as well as blood serum calcium level before going for extraction . I would suggest you to consult your doctor who prescribe prolia before extraction . Maintain proper oral hygiene .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
