General & Family Physician 's  Response

Novelan or any other oral contraceptive is 100% effective if you are taking them regularly.

NOVELON pill is a regular contraceptive pill and it prevents the pregnancy if it is taken from day 1 of her menstrual cycle. Since your wife has taken it just 7 days before her next period, it may not be effective as to prevent the pregnancy. Therefore, she has risk of pregnancy and the I-pill will be more effective in this case if she takes within first 72 hrs.
So, Novelon alone is not sufficient as a contraceptive measure.

Hope this answers your query.
