Can Heart Palpitations Lead To A-fib?

I pray for the truth, pls tell me doctor,

This "whey protein blend" (a popular brand, I just bought today) which I just took 1scoop (24g protein) for first time (without exercising today), in 10min I felt heart palpitations. I kept checking online about such effects; discovered a new term "afib (atrial fibrilliation)", found that this afib condition is progressive, & can lead to stroke. Q: Are heart palpitations equal to "afib"? If so..., pls tell me, should I stop that product brand? Thank you.

Hi There

You must be a youngster i guess, if you are not a professonal body builder and not under the supervison of any qualified trainer ill suggest you DO NOT take all these supplement to pump up your body as there are lot of ill effects coming with them. Taking a protein supplement makes your kidney work very hard and sometimes beyond its capacity and you need to take alot of water to clear these supplements from your body which will again can lead to water electrolye imbalance making you feel dizzy and weak.

Now the answer to your question is having palpitations does not mean that you are having AF although you need to get an ECG done at the time of palpitations to see for any abnormal rhtyhm going on with your heart. If it comes out be be a SINUS TACHYCARDIA then its ok and if some abnormality get detected then you should go for an ECHOCARDIOGRAM.

Good Luck
