Can Herpes Be Contracted Through Unprotected Oral Sex?

Hi! I was diagnosed with hsv2 three years ago. It started as a small bump that went away after a few days. 6 months later I got a bump in same spot but took longer to heal. Went to dr and after swab test, hsv2 was confirmed but she said she was shocked because it was so mild. Every now and then I get a tingle on my upper lip, I ve never had a sore or any type of cold sore. My mom and niece both have cold sores but luckily I ve never gotten them but have been exposed to it. My question is could i possible of gotten hsv2 orally also? My partner and I had oral sex before we found out. Neither of us had never had symptoms until after we started having sex. I m only worried because we have a baby and i don t want to kiss him and possibly give him it orally.

Hi,

Hsv2 is mostly not transferred by unprotected month sex. It is possible only in the immunocompromised person receiving sex.

For Hsv2 to get transferred, there is a need for skin to skin contact. So if your kid is not immunocompromised, he does not stand risk in contacting the disease by kissing.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
