Can High Blood Sugar Levels Be Controlled With Proper Diet And Exercises?

Hi doctor(s), I am harpal from India, Chandigarh. About a month and ten days back I discovered that I had high blood sugar. It was fbs160 and ppbs 200. Stopped sugar intake, started Ayurvedic med sugar balance by organic India and now for last few days fasting sugar is124 and pp is between 118 and 131. I take 3 drinks of 30 ml each in the evening. Am a small eater. Should I start glycomet or start some form of walk etc to exercise. Otherwise I am a regular yoga and weight training practitioner but I don t go for long walks. Please adverse.regards.

Hello dear user of HCM!
Thank you for asking us on this website!

High blood sugar is a very common condition nowadays in too many people who don't even know about it. Of course that the lifestyle and food is very related to this condition except when you have a genetic disposition or an autoimmune disorder.

You have done some simple analysis that show your fast and pp glucose. I would recommend an additional simple test called HbcA1 (or glycolized hemoglobin) which gives information about blood sugar level at least three last months.

If it results high, it means you have had this condition before.

There are a couple of ways to keep blood sugar under control and they are combined. Of course in your case you may try to keep blood sugar under control by physic activity and diet, because the values you found are not so high.
I would recommend you at least 40 mins of quick walking a day, diet with low sugar and fats, more fruits and vegetables, and lose weight if you are overweight.

If these measures don't put your sugar level in normal range then an anti-diabetic drug must be started.
Metformin twice daily is the one most favorite drug for this purpose.

I hope you will be fine
and I wish you a good health!
