Can High Dosage Of Furosemide Be Taken For Breathing Difficulty?
I am taking furosemide 20mg tabs one per day. My question is it OK to increase the dose when the symptoms seam not to show much improvement. I am visiting my family in California and it is very hot, I find it hard to breath and are also having to use my nebulizer to help me breath.
If breathlessness is not subsiding, the dose of furosemide can be increased to 40 mg taken as 20 mg at 8 AM and 2 PM. However, the dose should not be increased on your own. Urinary output, blood pressure, cardiac function and electrolyte levels need to be assessed before increasing the dose. Too much Furosemide can cause hypotension and electrolyte imbalances. So, please consult your doctor to change the dose.
Hope this answers your question Please let me know if you need further clarification Regards Dr.Lekshmi
