Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic
These light colored patches on your face are most likely those of
Pityriasis Alba.
Pityriasis alba is more common in patients who have dry skin. The light color is due to
post-inflammatory hypopigmentation.
These patches are other wise of no significance except that they can be of cosmetic concern.
Soaps can be too drying. Therefore, I usually ask my patients to avoid soaps on face.
I suggest my patients to use a gentle cleansing lotion e.g
cetaphil cleansing lotion, twice daily.
A moisturizing cream can be used, twice daily.
Specifically for the patches, I usually suggest my patients to use either a mild
topical steroid e.g
desonide 0.05% cream or a topical immunomodulator e.g tacrolimus 0.03% ointment, twice daily.
These usually achieve desired results in about 4-6 weeks.
Thereafter, once these patches resolve, keeping facial skin moisturized and avoiding soaps are measures that can prevent a recurrence.
