Can Hormonal Imbalance Cause Gingivitis, Bloating And Visible Veins?

Hi there, I would like to ask for my symptoms, I was recently diagnosed with PCOS, had a lot of cystic acne on chin, start of hirtuizam on face, my stomach suddenly start to become bigger and I felt bloated all the time. Some small red dots start appear on my skill all over my body like small angiomas just flat, I also have really visible veins on both of my legs below knee back side they are not varicose as doctor told me they are just really visible I feel like a map,and my legs hurt a lot I fell them really heavy and plus I have a start of gingivitis going on. Could all this symptoms be from the hormonal imbalance especially the veins and the gingivitis, cuz I know the other symptoms are?

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Irregular periods, oily skin, acne, excessive hair growth (hirsutism), infertility and weight gain are the most common symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome.

There are not e direct correlation between high androgen level present in PCOS and visible veins.

In my opinion, weight gain and obesity that may be characteristic in PCOS can produce heavy legs, increased venous distensibility and clinical evidence of varicose veins.

About the gingivitis, I can say that there is a direct relationship between hormons and gingival tissue.

The influence of sex hormones (androgens in your case) in gingival tissue can produce gingival problems like gingivitis.

The women with PCOS are more susceptible to have gingivitis compared with health young women.

So to resume: The PCOS is the basis of all your symptoms. My advice if to consult a local endocrinologist because the right treatment may ease and in some cases may disappear the symptoms. So,you can feel better.

Hope this is helpful.

Regards.
