Can Hospitatlization Lead To A Viral Infection?

I was diagnosed with a viral infection and given doxycycline. I was hospitalized three weeks ago for almost a week with a high fever, swollen eyelid, and I had two focal seizures. Could the viral infection have something to do with the hospitalization?

Hello,

Very high fever can sometimes result in seizures, though this is more common in children. It is possible that the infection was associated with the symptoms mentioned but you would need to clarify this with your doctor.

Your doctors may want to do an EEG (looks at brain waves), to further investigate your seizures. Imaging may also be suggested, such as a CT scan.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
