My nephew has high blood pressure, this year he lost his mom after taking care of her for over 20years... He is so stress taking care of his moms affairs and the siblings... doing this all on his own, his blood pressure went sky high months ago, he is actually in another state when this happened... he says when his blood pressure is to high he usually gets headaches, he now is telling me his eyesight is getting blurry on and off... I am concern... not only did he take care of his mom, he takes care of others.... his only 51.. Can his blood pressure cause blindness? I told him to see his doctor- he s many states away..
Hello, Hypertension (Elevated BP) is a chronic disease which means there are ways to control it but none to eliminate it completely. Answer to your question, yes BP can cause blurry vision, headaches and dizziness. Its because when your BP is high it damages small vessels in the retina which in turn can cause blurry vision. This is more common if there is associated diabetes. I would advise him to visit his PCP to get medications for his BP and follow up with an opthalmologist to get a fundoscopy done. The tests are performed in office visit and would not cost anything extra.
