Can Hysterectomy Treat Bleeding With Clots With History Of PVD?
hi! im 53yrs. old having wks. of bleeding and clots been advised to have hysterectomy. im not sure to have ovaries out too! no ovanian hx in family. I have pvd and would not be able to take hormone replacements if flashes are servere. im sure what to do!
You have been advised a hysterectomy for bleeding at the age of 53. You do not have history of ovarian cancer in family.
Your concern is regarding removal of ovaries. The commonest age for menopause is from 45-55 years. So you are already in the menopausal age. The ovaries should have naturally ceased to function after some time and you would have had to face menopausal symptoms. But it is a good sign that ovaries are still functional and remain functional for variable period of time at a lower level after menopause.
I suggest that you check if there is any family history of breast cancer as both ovarian and breast cancer share similar genes. If there is a history, I would suggest to get ovaries removed as they are still functioning [probably more than required since you are having heavy bleeding].
If there is no history, you may keep the ovaries and enjoy their benefits.
