Thanks for contacting HCM. Dear patient 22 is too young to be hypertensive, you need to evaluate your life style and eating habits. A bP of 150/100 is high and needs treatment. your doctor has correctly prescribed the medicine to you. you have not mentioned the subsequent BP readings and yo have also not mentioned the BP readings after discontinuation of medication. Have you succeeded in your goal?. Remember
hypertension is a multifactorial disease and you need to fight at multiple levels to get rid of it. There are some factors on which you have no control like your age, sex, family history. But there are lots of factors you can modify. you can try following things-
1. Loose weight- as loosing weight especially in early hypertensives can help them get off the medication.
2. Eat low salt diet and avoid foods rich in salts and preservatives like Chinese food, pickles, etc.
3. avoid
smoking and tobacco.
4. get active physically,do
aerobic exercise atleast 40 mins a day.
5. Avoid junk food, fried food and other unhealthy foods.
6. Eat lots of fruits, nuts like almonds, fish, salads and vegetables. Use olive oil for cooking.
7. In
yoga there are specific aasanas for
high BP patients and there are certain aasanas which are prohibited for BP patients so practice yoga but under guidance of a good teacher.
8. As for water, our thirst is a very good indicator of our water requirement, and one should not drink water in excess of out thirst as it puts load on our kidneys.
remember- its good that you are trying control BP without medication but till you succeed do not stop or start medication without your doctor's guidance. Also sometimes our efforts succeed but sometimes they do not, in that case it is better to take medicine than to suffer complications of high
uncontrolled BP.
