Can I Do Heavy Lifting After Undergoing A C-section?
I am 3 weeks post c section. I ve been feeling good recovering well. Yesterday I did some very heavy lifting and moved furniture. It did hurt a bit while I was doing it, it is the day after and I feel sore. I d like to know why it is advised not to do this if your feeling ok. Thanks
Hello, It is not advisable to exert for at least six weeks after surgery and this includes lifting heavy weights and intercourse. As wound healing is a continuous process, recovery of scar strength takes about two years. Thus, it is better to avoid another pregnancy until at least another year. The reason for advising rest is the fact that the incision on the uterus and the abdomen are still raw even after the sutures are absorbed and tissue healing takes time; some amount of wound strength is recovered in six months while attaining near complete strength takes 2 years. Hope this helps.
