Can I Take Benadryl With Prednisone For Itchy Skin Rashes?

Hi Doctor
I'm currently taking pedisone for my skin rashes including cephaxin antibiotic for 7 days
I'm on 3 days already and the itchiness at night bother me a lot
I used. Ice pack ice cubes applied to my rashes but the itchiness on and off
Can I take Benadryl with that ? Thanks you

Can understand your concern..

As per your complain itchy rashes on skin can occur as a result of some allergy caused by some medicine or any food product or any thing else and infection caused by some virus or bacteria.

As you are taking Cephaxin which is an antibiotic and if it is prescribed by a doctor there can be a bacterial infection..

The rashes occurs as an outcome of inflammation and Prednisone is used to treat inflammation and allergic reaction..

Benadryl is taken in case of an allergic reaction as it is an anti histamine and is used to treat allergies.

In case you are on a steroid therapy and antibiotics you should wait till the full course of the medicine is not complete and if you are not relieved first of all you should get evaluated for the exact cause of the problem and in case it is due to allergic reaction Benadryl can be taken..

For now you can also apply steroid based ointments over the rashes for relief..
