Hi,

I had been for 20 week anomaly scan and was detected as posterior placenta low lying and structure normal. This is my second baby and my first daughter is 3 years and had her through C section.
I am planning to travel to my home town at 25 weeks through flight and journey is 10 hours.
I would like to know if I can travel with this low lying placenta,if yes please let me know what precautions do I need to follow.

Thanks for your help

HI,
I understand your concern.
low lying placenta indicates that your placenta is very near the cervix of uterus. And it may start bleeding with slightest of stress/ starting of uterine contractions.
After 5 months of pregnancy there is possibility that the placenta is covering cervical opening ( complete placenta previa )/ it may cover cervix partially/ or marginally.
You are not allowed to move/ travel/ exert while the placenta is completely previa.through out the pregnancy. But other two cases when it's marginal/ partial,& you have to travel essentially.. you can travel before it's too late ( before 6th month starts.) with-utmost care/ advise of your treating doctor.
- Your doctor's recommendation/ advise about medications
- ON your own risk.
To travel by air can be safe provided..
- you travel with business class , have a cozy / relaxing seat.
- Take precautionary medicines prescribed by your doctor,
- Travel to air port/ into the port to land in plain should be comfortable /without jerks or physical stress( use the wheel chair in air port)
* Please plan for travel if at all it is essential to avoid untoward effects .
Thanks.
