Can Immune Deficinecy In Body Cause False Positive For HSV2?
Tested positive for HSV2. However, I do not or have any symptoms or out breaks. I am wondering if it can be a false positive as I have a compromised immune system. I have had two types of chemotherapy due to bone cancer, a bone implant and during the chemo had to have the varicella vaccine as I was exposed to chicken pox at a time my immune system was deficient. I did have chicken pox at the age of 5. As a result, my body never heals and I know I have an immune deficiency. Can this have caused the high rating of a positive test.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Depressed immune status is known to cause negative serological tests for various infections. Thus, the HSV 2 test can be negative in the presence of depressed immune status. However, a positive HSV 2 test indicates presence of HSV 2 infection. Thus, you need to consult your physician for further management.
