Can Increased Dosage Of Metoprolol Cause Feeling Of Something Stuck In Throat?

I am a 43 year old male and recently I have had the sensation of something small being stuck in my throat (like a pill) under the Adam s Apple for the last week. I am currently taking Metoprolol for hypertension and my primary care doc increased daily dosage from 100 to 150 mg daily. It seems that I have developed this sensation soon after the change in dosage, however, I have suffered from heartburn (acid reflux) from time to time in the past and have noticed heartburn pain has increased in the past few months as well. My heartburn pain would typically respond to over the counter medication (Pepcid), however, Pepcid is not helping to alleviate this sensation in my throat. There doesn t seem to be any food that triggers this feeling, as it is fairly consistent throughout the day. Any thoughts on what could be causing this?

Thanks for posting your query.

Feeling of something stuck in throat in not due to your increased dose of Metoprolol .

There must be other reason for your problem. It coulld be due to constriction in your food pipe ( oesophagus ) as long term heart burn can cause narrowing of food pipe.

Other possibility could be either a pus collection there or a growth at the food pipe.


My advise to you is to get Upper gastrointestinal Endoscopy scan done . This scan will reveal what problem you are having.
