Can Increased Dosage Of Antibiotics Be Taken For Tooth Infection?

I have a very bad tooth infection. I started amoxilllin yesterday 3T Daily 500mg each after seeing a GP. Today the infection is a lot worse and painful. Do I need to increase the dose of antibiotics? I also have a repeat prescription for another dose of 20 tablets. I will be seeing my dentist in a few weeks. It is difficult for me to visit my doctor again because of distance.

Thank you,

Peter

Hi Dear ,

Understanding your concern.

As per your query you have severe tooth infection which is not going away after taking antibiotics . If your tooth infection doesn't get better with antibiotics the it will surely need root stronger antibiotics , root canal or tooth extraction . I would suggest you to do warm saline rinses several times a day , also do betadine rinses twice a day , maintain oral hygiene and Visit dentist for proper treatment or take stronger antibiotics only if you have prescription . Doctor may order x-ray to check extent of infection . Doctor may drain the pus , perform root canal or prescribe stronger antibiotics .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
