Can Ingrown Hairs Cause Large Bumps On Legs, Arms And Buttocks?

Hi - I m a 53 year old female with a terrible problem with ingrown hairs everywhere ... especially my legs, butox and arms. I think they are ingrown hairs, but am not sure. I get these large bumps, it looks & feels as if a hair is there and is just not working its way out. But they never do, I start picking at them, trying to get the hair out - but that just makes the situation much worse. It s become so bad, I won t go out with bare arms or legs & is terribly embarrassing & hard on my self-esteem. Please help me.

Hello,
Thank you for your query

Ingrown hairs are common when you shave hair or use a epilator. Ideally, use a gently scrub or loofah for a week after you shave will help prevent Ingrown hairs.

Picking at it will only lead to infection. If it comes only after your shaving sessions , then it's probably Ingrown hairs, but this would occur abt 2-4 days after you remove hair.
If it occurs before 2 daysdays, could be an allergic reaction to the device or personal care products you may be using

I recommend :
-seeing a doctor to make sure it is only Ingrown hairs.
-treating any current bumps (folliculitis) with topical antibiotics
-no shaving/epilating/waxing for a month till hair all grows back normally after which follow my recommendation.

Note:
-Use a clean device (blade, for instance) before every sessionsession. Clean in hot water and rubbing alcohol
-use the loofah or scrub until hair Is about 5mm in length and it stands uoup.
- before shaving, use a loofah/scrub to remove any dead skin
- wash with soap & water and then shave

Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you good health
