Can Intake Of Antibiotics Cause Swollen Ankles, Legs And Feet?

I have an abcessed tooth and started taking antibiotics today. The other day my ankles and legs were swollen. I thought it was due to my new job which requires a lot of walking. Now I noticed the tops of my feet are swollen. I ve already seen the dentist should I be worried bout my feet

Hi,

Can you mention your age, and any preexisting diseases like hypertension, kidney disease or cardiac issues? Is there any associated pain? Any decrease in urine output or any breathing difficulty or exercise intolerance?

Edema of both legs need evaluation. This can happen following prolonged standing, especially if there is varicose veins. This can also happen with significant anemia, low protein level in blood or dysfunctioning of kidney or heart. Kindly see your doctor for evaluation. Depending on clinical findings, you may be asked for few blood tests, chest x ray on an ECHO test.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
