Can Intensive Physical Exercise Cause Sudden Weight Loss?

My son is 18, very active. Basketball player and active in school. I ve noticed his color being off, and I had been noticing some weight loss but thought it was because of starting a new season of basketball.. coach running them pretty hard. Tonight he came home and said that he has a pretty bad sore throat and I asked him about the weight loss. He said that he has gone from 220 to 190!! I freaked out and he reassured me that it s because the coach is running the freaking crap out of us! I know I should be concerned, right?!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear. Since your son is physically very active and may not be consuming the required amount of calories he may be having weight loss. Kindly ask him to consult a dietician who will tell him the proportion of calories and proteins he need to take and the type of diet he needs to consume.

If your son doesnot have any other symptoms like long term fever, diarrhoea, cough for more than 2 weeks etc, you need not worry..

Hope i have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. I ll be glad to help you.
All the best
With warm regards
