Can Irregular Periods Cause Bloating, Heaviness And Menstrual Like Cramps?

I am a female 54 years of age and for the last three months I have been experiencing heaviness and bloating and cramping (almost like menstrual cramps) in my abdomen and pelvic area. I have my period about every three or six month. Could this be attributed to my discomfort?
