Can It Take A Day Or So To Realize Rib Pain And Bruise?

I had a sledding accident with my son yesterday. I was standing filming him with a small camera, and did not see how close he was getting to me. He and the dog collided into me, knocking me feet out from under me and I landed on my side. I had the wind knocked out of me but really didn't feel anything else yestereday other than shin and hip bruises. Today it hurts to breathe, and is excruciating to laugh, sneeze or cough. Can it take 12-24 hours to feel rib bruising? Should I see a doctor or just tough it out?
