Can Lack Of Lactation After Childbirth Be Treated?

Hello Doctor, We were blessed with a baby girl (delivery was using c-section). Its almost 10 days after delivery. However, my wife is still unable to produce breastmilk. Currently, on Doctor s advise, we are giving Lactodex 1 Starter Formula to our baby. We seek your advise on availability of breastmilk and would like to evaluate the risk in giving Lactodex 1 Starter Formula instead of breastmilk.

Hi welcome to the health care magic and thanks for asking your query here

When you go into labour your body is releasing oxytocin, which causes contractions and also stimulates milk production. So if you have a C section without going into labour then milk production could be delayed and in many cases it can be delayed as much as 3-4 weeks and this do not need any specific treatment but still mom-baby Skin to skin contact is very important for babies right after birth. It can help with thermoregulation and pain control for babies

Even though breast milk is not coming but You should let the baby suck it as it will not only stimulate milk production but also will keep your baby in practice
Until it start coming you can feed the baby with lactodex 1 and there is no problem with it
I would strongly suggest you keep your baby under supervision of a pediatric and follow the instructions given by him

I hope it helps
Thanks a lot
