Can Laparascopic Left Ovary Removal Surgery Cause Extreme Mood Swings?

I am 5 days post op laparoscopic left ovary/cyst-mass/tube removal and rt tube removal. (Hysterectomy was 12yrs ago). All pathology came back benign, as hoped and expected. I have felt recovery going very well, taking things easy, and then developed sudden diarrhea and vomiting yesterday morning, able to keep most fluids down and no just slight uneasy stomach. No fever, but headache and am a wreck. Cried all day yesterday and again today. Had hoped to go back to work, light duty tomorrow, but can t seem to quit crying. Is this a post anesthesia or post surgery (loosing one ovary) temporary emotional event? I m 43, married with 2 teenagers, and I m pretty sure my husband thinks I ve gone off the deep end! Haven t had any pain meds other than Tylenol or ibuprofen since Thursday night, surgery was on Tuesday. Any suggestions as to this sudden emotional roller coaster? Thank you, Cathy

Hi,

It is possible that the laparoscopic left ovary removal surgery could cause mood swings, as the surgery and recovery process can be physically and emotionally taxing on the body. Additionally, the loss of an ovary can result in hormonal changes that may contribute to mood swings or emotional instability.

Post-anesthesia or post-surgery emotional events are common and can manifest in a variety of ways, including crying spells, anxiety, and depression. These symptoms are typically temporary and should improve as your body continues to heal and adjust to the changes.

It is important to discuss your symptoms with your healthcare provider, as they may be able to recommend strategies to help alleviate your mood swings and provide support during your recovery. This may include counseling or therapy, medication, or other interventions as needed.

In the meantime, it is important to prioritize self-care and to take things slow as you continue to recover. This may include getting plenty of rest, eating a healthy diet, and engaging in activities that promote relaxation and stress reduction, such as meditation or gentle exercise.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
