Can Late Pregnancy Cause Difficulty In Breathing?

Hello! My aunt Is 43 now and is in 8th month pregnancy.. She feels like she can't sit at any position for so long and feels that if she will continue not changing her pose she might not breath and often gets pain upward her stomach..Her doctors have answered her that these problems have risen because of her age .. Is it really true ?

Hello,
It is true that pregnancy at later ages is not as endurable as when one is young. Yet, any breathing difficulty should not be ignored. You should ask her to see a pulmonologist or a physician for evaluation of the respiratory function and get necessary treatment. Also, in advanced pregnancy, due to the pressure effect, the diaphragm is pushed upward and the lung capacity decreases and this in itself causes some breathing discomfort. She should try to rest in a semi-reclining position and in the left lateral position. Hope you find this information useful. Take care.
