Can Lung Be Transplanted If Suffering From Emphysema And COPD?
I am 54 years old and very healthy. My dad is 75 and has emphysema and COPD. He has been on oxygen for about 4 years now but is getting much worse. I want to give him one of my lungs before he declines too much. Is this possible? Would a doctor do this at his age?
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern. Yes lung transplant is an option for terminal stages of COPD and emphysema. But you can not donate your lung to your father. You need to register your father's name in lung transplant registry. There is waiting list and they go according to that list only. So consult transplant specialist and discuss all these. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
