Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Medication For High BP And Cholesterol Cause Foul Smelling Urine?
My urine has a very foul smell. I suffer from ulcerative colitis and diverticulitis and was wondering if this was in anyway related. During the night I need to urinate at least five times but I just contribute this to my drinking a lot of fluids all day and usually having a glass of milk just before bed. I also take medications for high blood pressure and cholesterol. I know that your urine can indicate a lot as far as health. What are some of the symptoms and conditions from a foul smell?
Your urine will have to be tested as there are numerous conditions that can cause a fowl smelling urine and also a particular type of smell indicates the cause.
UC or diverticulitis should not really influence your urine, but I would however recommend having all the fluids you intend on drinking at least 90-120 minutes before bedtime. Frequent urination during the night is not good for the muscles of your bladder and should be avoided at all costs. Please make changes to your regimen. If at all you do feel thirsty closer to bed time, have very small sips of water just to wet your mouth.
Best wishes
