Can Menopause Really Cause Psychotic Behavior?

My sister just returned home from a crisis center because of a psychotic episode. She was put on an antipsychotic med. She went to her therapist appt. today and he told her he would rather she be on bio-idental hormones. We, her family, are furious. This is the most normal she has acted for some time and now she is thinking it's hormonal and doesn't need the meds. Can menopause really cause psychotic behavior?
