Can Mirena Coli Cause Foul Vaginal Discharge?

Ummm I had a Mirena Coil fitted about 51/2 months ago and I now have either caramel coloured and it almost smells of caramel vaginal,hate to call it discharge because it's not,itd be normal but for the colour, and brown to black discharge at other times. It stops you wanting to have sex.Will it stop happening?

Hi.

I've gone through your query. I can understand your anxiety.

Hormonal IUD's presents with side effects like cramping & on & off bleeding /spotting (brownish discharge), abdominal or pelvic pain, headache, back pain etc. These symptoms will settle within 6months.

In your case, foul smelling brownish discharge could be due to additional infection. I advice you,
- To look for the expiry of the effective lifespan of the device
- consult your gynaecologist for a USG pelvis in order to locate if there is any pathology & also for further assistance.
- course of antibiotics if needed
