Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Missing One Birth Control Pill Cause Late Period?
I had intercourse & the condom was stuck inside of me. He did not ejaculate, however there was precum in the condom. The condom did however have spermicide. The condom was stuck inside of me for two days. I took plan b the day it came out. I am on birth control but I had missed a pill that week so I didn't want to take any chances. So now it is the day before my period is supposed to come and I'm only experiencing brown discharge. Only its irregular - coming and going. Please tell me this is just a side effect of all the hormones inside of me? I tested negative on a few tests that were taken within 6 days of my period.
Usually missing 1 pill shouldnt cause a late period, this can be due to hormonal changes. If you are experiencing cramps and period like pain then you should be getting your period soon. However if you do not get your period within a week just take the pregnancy test to be on the safe side (although im expecting it to be negative)
For next time take a double dose of birth control pills right after intercourse to be on the safe side and then continue pills according to the regular routine, this method counts even if you've missed a pill before the intercourse.
I hope this answered your query.
