Can Narcolepsy Cause Excessive Sweating?

It has taken 2years, but I was finally diagnosed as having chronic pancreatitis, this past January 2015. I was hospital ized in John s Hopkins hospital for 31days. I had developed massive blood clots in both legs and in both lungs. While in hospital, I had several strokes. Since my return home, I am very limited to what I can do. I am very weak, and tire easily, with little to no energy. The past few months, I have been having trouble with my sleeping. I can fall asleep at anytime or anywhere. And I am talking about a deep sleep. There are times I have trouble waking up, and staying awake. I have fallen asleep standing up,doing dishes and even at the stove. Recently, I am finding myself waking up soaking wet. Most of the time I am too sleepy to get up and change my clothes, . my husband has to force me to get up and change my clothes. I am at the point now, where I am going through 6-7changes of clothes a day. My question is, if I have narcolepsy, is it common to have the sweats along with the condition. If not what, is causing these drenching sweats, and me being sleepy and falling asleep with out warning.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

There are common features of narcolepsy such as:
- Excess day time sleepiness
- Hallucinations
- Sleep paralysis
- Loss of muscle tone
- Changes in rapid eye movement sleep cycle
- Others

However, a symptom of excess sweating is not routine sign of narcolepsy and so as part of B symptom of lymphoma or other lympho proliferative disorder must be evaluated for the root cause.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
