Hello, and I hope I can help you today.

You are correct that HPV can cause diseases of the mouth and anus. However there is no approved HPV test for oral screening, and anal Pap smears are only recommended for men who have receptive anal intercourse.

So if you have a negative cervical HPV screen, you are considered low risk for anal HPV and no one really knows the incidence of HPV in the mouth and how it is transmitted. I would be comfortable telling your partner that he is at low risk for contracting HPV from other areas of your body.

I hope I answered your question and that this information was helpful.

Best wishes, Dr. Brown
