Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Nerve Damage In Mouth Cause Neck Pain And Headaches ?
I have a lot of neck pain and headaches and the doctors I have been too say it is caused from nerve damage from an infected tooth which has been pulled. I have so much discomfort that I am unable to work. I am 52 years old and an a pilot which is my occupation.
Noted your specific history about having pain in neck and head and Doctor suggested it to be nerve pain due to infected tooth that was pulled. Also noted that you are a pilot. Since you are a pilot you need to be fully attentive hence the medications needed should not cause any sedation that you have to discuss with your Doctors strictly. The commonest cause I can think about are as follows: This condition is called Trigeminal neuralgia. I would advise you the following in such a situation: Consult a Neurosurgeon or an ENT Surgeon for clinical examination, confirmation and get an MRI for the trigeminal nerve. Get treated after telling that you are a pilot as discussed above. Surgery for removal of vascular loop or to block the nerve can help you for a long time and avoid medications that can hamper your profession.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
