Can New Paint Causes Head Aches And Vomiting?

Good morning. Had interior doors painted yesterday with an interior alkyd semi-gloss enamel paint. Opened a couple of windows for a few hours. Wasn't long after going to bed, woke up with headache and vomiting. Could this have been caused by the paint? Worried it could be something else.

Hi, thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. Your are right - new paint can cause headache, nausea or vomiting. It is because of fumes which originate from paint and cause toxic air. All household paints are made up of petroleum, so always produce toxic fumes. Toxicity decreases as paint dries up.

To get relief, you can follow few tips
: Ventilate room. Keep open all windows
: Use exhaust fan
: You can go outside and avoid same room in day time
: You can take painkiller like Diclofenac sodium after proper prescription
: For nausea, you can take Pantoprazole-Domperidone combination after proper prescription
: Use normal fun also to circulate air.

Hope it will help you. Still no relief, you can consult doctor to rule out nay poisoning.

Thanks. Take care.
