Can Nose Blockage And Breathing Issues Be Due To Nicotine Gum?

Hello doctor. My name is Ravin. I ve stop smoking last year since May (cold turkey). Two months later i continue vaping for 6 months (untill January 2018). Since january i was under NRT (nicorrete gum 4mg) untill now. Recently i m having stuffy nose (nose bloked) and breathing problems. I went for a check up. Doctor took nose x-ray and told me i m having sinus problems. My lungs x-ray is ok. He prescribed me with BUDENIDE nasal spray. Now i m using this medication for almost a week but my problem cannot be solved. I just want to know whether my stuffy nose and breathing problems cause by NRT gum? What i should do to overcome my problems? Please help me....

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Gum won't cause this. You need to get a good steam inhalation for the sinuses to clear up and then get a CT done to see the status.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your already a exposed person for nicotine so this nasal congestion and breathing issues may me not due to nicotine in fact insufficient dosage in replacement may cause above problems.

Also check for other possibilities like viral rhinitis or rhinopharyngitis or allergy etc.

Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is.

Avoid cool drinks and freeze water, avoid smoking and caffeine drinks.

Use water vapor inhalation and salt water gargling thrice a day for five days.

If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor, he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Take care.
