Can Numbness On The Nose Be Due To A Nose Injury Or A Damaged Nerve?

Last year, I was hit in the nose really hard in a basketball game, and was bleeding. I was nt too sure if it was broken or not but lately I ve been feeling some sort of numbness on the right side of my nose, I can t even feel the side of it at all. but at the same time i m also thinking it may be neurological because everytime I stress out, or have anxiety, it begins to numb even more. I m not sure if this is a nerve damage or if it was because of the basketball injury. Could you please help me?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history about hit on nose during basketball game, nasal bleeding, then feeling numbness on right side of nose.
I can think about the following in such a case:
Possibly there was a nerve injury that has not healed well.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Consult an ENT Surgeon and a have second opinion of a Neurologist for clinical evaluation, examination and relevant investigations like Nerve conduction study, CT scan of nose and sinuses and so on.
All this will give an appropriate diagnosis and thus give a plan for an appropriate management which can be in the form of medications like gabapentin, Amitriptyline which may benefit you a lot.
If there is any scar formation or a bone spicule from old fracture its surgery can help a lot.

I hope this answer helps you. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,

Dr. T Chandrakant,
