Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 55 years old and I have noticed fine small light hairs growing on my face around the hair line on my forehead, is this normal? I read that they may be called Vellus hairs, is this what they are? My other hair is not leaving my scalp and my hair lines have been the same on my forehead for the last 10 years, I just starting noticing this hair about a month ago. Thank you, John
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have new hair growth on forehead . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like hormonal imbalance in condition known as Hirsutism , this usually occur due to as a side effects of some medication or with age factor . In such cases the level of testosterone start increasing , which cause hair growth . Use of certain medication for long duration is also known to have one of their side effects as excessive unwanted hair growth . Genetic factors also play role sometimes . I would suggest you to consult dermatologist . Doctor may prescribe hormonal therapy , discontinue medicine which causing this or prescribe substitute or recommend laser therapy .
