Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I am 37 years old and have 2 kids ages of 7 and 5. I really like to have another baby but I m bit scared as I am taking antidepressant since last 6 months. (Cipralex 10 mg and Meresa 50) Also I have done near total thyroidectomy in 2004 and found out a cold nodule in the thyroid gland but it was not a cancer. Currently I am taking Altroxine 150MG. Could you pls advise if it safe to go for another pregnancy and my baby will face any bad effects as I am on antidepressant.
However, if you conceive you will need your doctor's assistance throughout the pregnancy.
Since you have a history of thyroid, you will have to be on medications even during pregnancy.
You will require to get closely monitored by your treating doctor as you will need to take the correct dose of the medications to avoid complications like miscarriage, still births or preterm births, maternal heart failure, etc.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician

Can One Conceive While On Antidepressants
Hello, Since you already have two kids & are taking antidepressants presently, you are suggested to get your depression treated before you conceive. At times, moderate to severe depression may cause low birth weight, preterm birth, heart defects, miscarriage, etc. However, if you conceive you will need your doctor s assistance throughout the pregnancy.
