Can One Get Positive Test Results For HSV After Having Oral Sex?

My boyfriend and I had sex over month ago, a couple weeks later I'm having symptoms of a yeast infection, another week goes by and bumps appear. We both got tested and he comes out negative for HSV 2 and mine positive. Now that last time we had sex he had a cold sore on his lip. Is it possible for me to get it that way? If so how come he was negative for type 2? We haven't had sex since that last time at all.

Hi, thanks for asking from HCM

HSV or herpes simplex virus cause two type of infection. In general Cold sores are causes by HSV 1 and genital infection by HSV 2 virus. Though HSV 1 can also spread through sexual mode but generally HSV 1 is a milder form of infection and usually acquired in childhood. So most likely you haven't acquired the HSV 2 through cold sore.

You have been tested positive for HSV 2 which is sexually transmitted infection. In most of individuals infection spreads during asymptomatic periods but even in that phase tests come positive for HSV 2. If he came negative then go for repeat testing. Some times false negative results are seen.

Thanks. Take care
