Can One Smoke Marijuana While Getting Treatment For A Tooth Abscess?
I am undergoing tooth abcess treatment, I had my abcess on my gum evaluated and cleaned up a bit, drained, etc. Yesterday, i am wondering what effects would taking one hit of Marijuana do to the area, I am in no pain, constantly cleaning with salt water rinse, brushing teeth several times and flossing
You are advised to take antibiotics and analgesic prescribed to you. For now, stay away from Marijuana. If in pain, you can take the pain-relieving medications prescribed by your treating doctor. Taking Marijuana will increase the risk of inflammation associated with oral mucositis.
Marijuana also triggers drying of the mouth, dry mouth will delay healing (put you to risk of bacteria and tooth decay), put you also at the risk of soreness and burning mouth. It may cause tooth sensitivity too. Marijuana also causes staining of teeth, which at present you will not want. Marijuana contains carcinogens / carcinogenic substance, due to which there is an increased risk for pre-cancers and oral cancers of the tongue and floor of the mouth.
