Can One Take Warfarin And Culturelle At The Same Time?

My husband has been taking Warfarin and Culterelle for some time now with no ill effects. Suddenly, in the info sheet in the Culterelle package, there s a warning to those who take Warfarin and Warfarin related meds. Should we be concerned? Thank you. YYYY@YYYY Paula

Hello,

Culturelle contains normal bowel flora and normal bowel flora is involved in production and absorption of vitamin K which is important for coagulation factors which Warfarine antagonizes.
So there is a chance that the effect of Warfarine might be slightly reduced due to enhancement of vitamin K concentration in blood due to extra bacterial flora.

Still this effect should not be extreme and all you need to do is let your doctor know of the medication you are taking and he might need to monitor you a bit closer at the beginning to make sure you are having the proper result from the dose of warfarine.

I hope I have answered to your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
