Hello,

Regular contraceptive pills should be taken as instructed by the health care provider or as written instruction on the leaflet of the pill. Skipping the medicines, affects the efficacy of the medicine and puts you at the risk of getting pregnant.

Since you have skipped/forgotten to take the pills as instructed, it will be better to take emergency contraceptive pill to prevent the risk of getting pregnant. Emergency contraceptive pill is a one time use pill, taken in emergency within 72 hrs of unprotected intercourse. Regular contraceptive pills should be taken as instructed to avoid getting pregnant.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
