Can Pain Across The Stomach With Gas Be Connected To Diagnosed Umbilical Hernia?

I am a 73 year old female with an umbilical hernia as diagnosed by my doctor. There has been no pain until just recently. The pain goes across my stomach and feels almost like gas, but I don't seem to have gas. This has been occurring on and off for a couple of days. Should I try and schedule a doctor appointment...I know it could be something totally unconnected to the hernia.
