Can Pain In The Ankle Be Due To Fracture Or Sprain?

I rolled my right ankle wearing heels and running down a wet hallway. It was extremely painfull for the first 3 days. When I am at rest it throbs and I am okay walking on it but with moderate pain and discomfort. The outter side of my ankle swells during the day and usually goes down after I sleep at night. It causes pain to turn the foot inward or point my toes towards the floor. Is this a sign of a sprain or possibly a fracture?
