Can Physical Activity Be Performed While Suffering From Spinal Disc Protrusion?

Please type your query here...I hurt my back lifting gun safe at work ,on 11/26/10 didnt stop working went to dr. after a few days ,got painn killers,used that of two weeks then pain got so bad had to take 3 days off.had mri have l4L5 protruding disc,have been going to pt for 10 weeks with little or no relief,went to see a dr. ffrom workmans comp.(still working only missed 3 days in dec)but pain is getting worse down leg,right foot goes numb after walking and working for a couple of hours.should I stay out of work till I get answers?
