Can Proactiv Cause Wrinkles On My Face?

Hi I've been using proactiv an acne treatment as a trial for the past week and have just noticed that I have developed these wrinkles on the skin above my eyelids, would have this been because of the proactiv. I noticed just before of dryness around that area since using it. Should I keep using it or stop?

Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic

The product that you are using contains benzoyl peroxide which is an effective topical antiacne.
It is sebostatic i.e decreases sebum production. Benzoyl peroxide is an irritant too and therefore may cause excessive dryness specially at delicate skin areas like eyelids and angles of mouth and nose.
This excessive dryness may cause a dry wrinkled appearance of skin at these areas.
Therefore, this product is not recommended to be used on delicate skin areas like eyelids, angles of mouth etc and you should discontinue it at these places.
I would suggest you to use a moderately potent topical steroid e.g fluticasone propionate 0.05% cream, twice daily over the dry wrinkled skin for 3-5 days.
Steroids are antiinflammatory and therefore would take care of the excessive dryness and wrinkling that is most likely the result of irritation to this product that you are using on face.

Regards
