Can Quitting Smoking Cause Cough?

my husband, age 49, 6'4", 230lbs, otherwise healthy, however, past two years, after he quit smoking, he coughs ALL the time and he is EXTREMELY tired ALL the time. Also he asperaites at night sometimes, wakes up choking, coughing, and weezing...he seems to have sleep aphnea too.

Quitting smoking don't cause cough but long duration of smoking itself responsible for may lung pathology.
Like emphysema,asthma as well pneumonia and cancer.All of these diseases can cause cough,choking and wheezing.
From your narration I guess he is likely suffering from asthma.Better to consult physician/pulmonologist and go for investigation advised by him like chest x-ray and pulmonary function tests and take treatment.
